Lots of changes going on at Spiritwind Farm. First of all, I sold my two beautiful English Shire horses, Lucy and Abby. I have had health issues that prevented me from caring for the girls as they needed. They have lymphedema witch needs constant attention and care. Lifting those legs to do this was next to impossible for me ( I had shoulder replacement surgery in March). I found a very good home for them though. Marie-Helene and Eric of Quebec bought the girls and have fallen in love with them. They have green pastures, and other Shire horses for them to hang out with. Shires are endangered and Marie-Helene and Eric plan on breeding them. I will be visiting them soon.
I am not selling the farm, I am leasing with option to own to a couple, Josh and Bianca Cothen, who have lots of organic farming experience as well as other ventures. They have three beautiful children, Joe 10, Nora 4, and Mabel 1. We are presently all living together happily. They have set up a high tunnel for growing in more seasons, and a hoop house filled with microgreens, herbs and other greens. We have 50 Freedom Ranger organically raised broiler chickens that will soon be ready. Layer hens for farm fresh organically and pasture raised eggs on the horizon also. Pastured organic raised pigs for Josh’s dream of ethical butchering and a smokehouse using age old techniques that observe religious and ancient methods. Smoking products will not be limited to meats, and can include veggies, cheese, herbs and other value added products. Josh spent 9 yrs in the Navy as an electronics technician. He went to the Landing School in Kennebunkport where he became a trained boat builder and mastered woodworking skills. He has extensive experience working on organic farms and working with farm equipment. He enjoys problem solving and making efficient systems. Bianca is a birth doula and aspiring midwife. She has a passion for gardening and taking care of others. She works side by side with Joshua in all of their farming endeavors. She is a wonderful cook, baker and canner and has a goal of developing a kitchen business. Both Josh and Bianca are great cooks and love to plan delicious and healthy meals. Farm to table dinners will definitely be on our agenda.
I will be moving into the studio apt. over the garage soon. I am looking forward to downsizing and slowing down. I plan on visiting my children in their beautiful places they live. I will continue with my goats, milking them and making cheeses, soaps and moisturizers. We may add mini cows to our farm. Fun! Fun! Fun!
